MAY 21, 2020: People are still dying and you’re still lying

I continue to be shocked at the ridiculous memes and hated rhetoric being spewed from the Facebook and Twitter accounts of those who should know better.

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve seen complaints that the government is forcing us to social distance against our will as part of a plot to keep the current president from being re-elected in November. The people complaining loudest seem to forget that the government is increasingly under the dictatorial control of the current president, so…

I’ve seen many comments about “Obamagate”, without anyone giving an accounting of what “Obamagate” is supposed to be. That’s nothing less than cowardice under another name.

I even saw a racist meme that warned “Obama and his cohorts” what happened when four people were convicted of trying to overthrow Lincoln’s government. It included a horrid 19th century photo of four people being hanged, somewhere, at some time, in some location. There is absolutely no evidence of anything like this ever happening, or that the photo was actually anything of historical significance whatsoever.

Here’s what I know for sure:

• President Obama will never hold public office again. He held the highest office in the land for as long as it was possible to hold that office. There isn’t anything else to aspire to after that.
  
• Hillary Clinton will likely never run for office again. She had her chance, she didn’t win, Democrats are not going to nominate her again. Her time in the public eye might not be over, but she’s not running again.
  
• The current president has been in office for nearly four years. At some point, he has to start taking responsibility for his own failures.
  
• So will those supporting Trump all this time. His failures have become their failures, his hatred has become their hatred, for all time. Increasingly, I have and will become less forgiving of their failures and their hatred.

I’ll say it again for those in the back who might have trouble hearing me:
PEOPLE ARE DYING. PEOPLE ARE GOING HUNGRY. If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.

If you don’t stand for something meaningful, you’ll fall for all the wrong things.
