JUNE 18, 2020: Probably the kindest thing that can be said about the administration’s lack of effort ~
If you’ve been paying any attention to the news this week, you’ll see that the president and the vice president are pretty much through giving a damn about the Coronavirus pandemic in the USA. And they’re more than over caring about the citizens and their families impacted by it.
From 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we’re still hearing either A) Nothing; or B) That it’s all going away.
Meanwhile, the rate of positive tests is increasing in 21 states. The frightening spike in new cases has moved from New York to places like Arizona, Florida, and Oklahoma, where the president plans on holding an indoor rally Saturday, the biggest indoor gathering of individuals in the western hemisphere since March.
It remains to be seen whether he will find as many rabid fans there as he had seen prior to the pandemic.
And if the event eventually spawns a whole new rash of cases thanks to close quarters, no social distancing, and no face masks, then you might expect that his in-person fans would drop dramatically after that.
I get the feeling that one or two “rallies” that wind up being Superspreader events would be enough to kill off his chances of re-election in November. But 2016 showed us that stranger things can always happen.
One thing is certain, however: believing you can host gatherings of thousands of people without adding to the Coronavirus caseload and Coronavirus death toll is just wishful thinking.
