JUNE 24, 2020: The message? This government does not care about you ~
I noticed the president visited a section of the border wall with Mexico near Yuma, Arizona yesterday. Looking for anything he views as positive to focus on after Supreme Court decisions that went against him and the release of his former National Security Advisor’s tell-all book, he was happy to show how spending money the national treasury doesn’t have is being used to… well, build a wall.
Meanwhile, back in Yuma, ICU beds are at capacity due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, and they’re flying patients elsewhere just to be able to get them the care they need. Ventilators aren’t available either.
Not too far to the west, in El Centro, California, the same scenario is taking place. Patients are being flown hundreds of miles away because the hospital there doesn’t have the capacity to handle any more Coronavirus cases.
Doctors and nurses in these two communities are overworked and frustrated by the inability of anyone to counter the most serious cases of this illness. The case load keeps piling up. So do the dead bodies.
But hey, Mr. President, let’s talk up the wall you’re spending my future Social Security benefits on. Don’t bother visiting hospitals suffering the most strain during this time of national crisis. Don’t worry about thanking front line workers straining under an unimaginable workload trying to save people who are fighting for their lives.
The message is clear: this administration has moved on. They don’t care about us. They don’t care about our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors afflicted with this disease. They don’t care about the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who are tasked with fighting on despite the unforgiving nature of the pandemic.
They don’t care about us.
